Welcome to QCWA Country Kitchens
The QCWA Country Kitchens program is an initiative of the Queensland Country Women’s Association funded by the Queensland Government through Health and Wellbeing Queensland. The concept of a health promotion program in partnership with the trusted and renowned QCWA began in 2015.
A successful funding submission resulted in appointment of a team of Accredited Practicing Dietitian’s and Nutritionists who developed the QCWA Country Kitchens program.
The program aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders, particularly those living in rural, regional and remote locations. Our team travel across Queensland visiting rural, regional and remote communities offering practical support to QCWA volunteers.
To date, the Nutritionists and Dietitians, working with QCWA members, have travelled to over 80 communities delivering activities including hands on nutrition workshops, training events and showcases; resulting in a volunteer workforce of over 120 Branch Facilitators who enthusiastically, brought over 1200 participants to workshops and promoted “localised” health promotion initiatives to more than 15,000 Queenslanders.
Today, the Country Kitchens program continues to develop training and localised health promotion resources for over 200 Branch Facilitators in over 160 communities across Queensland.
The program has developed Healthy Cooking Guidelines as a foundation document providing evidence based nutrition information, healthy recipe nutrient criteria and practical advice on cooking for family and friends.
