International - Peacekeepers

United Nations Peacekeepers

The United Nations Peacekeepers March & Service was held on Saturday 28 May at Anzac Square in Brisbane. It was the 69th Anniversary of UN Peacekeeping and for the last 10 years QCWA International has donated the morning tea with fresh scones, jam and cream. We were acknowledged for our contribution during the ceremony and on the programme.

“The Gootchie Girls held their Contest Finals day for Cookery, Floral Art and Knitting & Crocheting along with a monster Tombola last week. Over 40 guests from around the community attended and enjoyed a Greenland International flavoured Luncheon, which included Roasted Ptarmigan, Wild Pot of Musk Oxen and Salmon with Pasta, and for dessert we served Apple Berry Crisp. Spicy Scones were enjoyed for morning tea which were curry flavoured.”

Samford Night Owls

Samford Night Owls Branch Opening

For the Samford Night Owls, becoming an official Sub-Branch of the QCWA Samford is a wonderful milestone for our group. So much preparation went into making this event one to remember – and what a great night it was!

Chaired by Christine King, QCWA Greater Brisbane Division President, the meeting was attended by special guests including QCWA State President, Robyn McFarlane, QCWA Samford Branch President, Annette Buxton, State MP for Ferny Grove, Mark Furner and Councillor for Division 11, Darren Grimwade. Members from other QCWA Branches around Brisbane and representatives from several other local community groups also attended, along with family, friends and prospective new members.

After the short meeting, everyone enjoyed supper provided by our members and a chance to mingle with our guests. The Owl cake was both colourful and delicious. Thank you to all of our members for volunteering your hard work to pull together this special event. And a very special thanks goes out to the ladies of the QCWA Samford Branch for all of their support over the last 2+ years. It was a wonderful night! We have already gained several new memberships from this event.
