QCWA
Piecemakers
We
are a patchwork group within QCWA. There is no competition other than a challenge
for display at the State Conference each year. Our aim is to promote friendship
and learning among members and the community. Each region is represented
by three members who form the State Committee. Each Division has a Piecemakers
contact who liaises with Branch and Division patchwork groups. These groups
support their local communities with quilts made for raffles and other
charities.
Each
year the members of Piecemakers support a major charity. The last two years
there have been several hundred wheelchair bags made for Granston Lodge in aid
of patients with Multiple Sclerosis. A previous project was turbans for
cancer patients, with some members still making these. We also provide an
annual $500.00 bursary for a rural student at the Metropolitan South Institute
of TAFE who is studying fashion design.
There are regular
workshops held within Branches and Divisions around the State for members and
non-members. Quilt Shows are held at Regional Meetings and State
Conference.
