Glen Aplin Quilt and Craft Show
August 11 @ 11:00 am - August 13 @ 2:00 pm
After a break of 3 years the Glen Aplin Branch members are busily planning and preparing for their 4th Quilt and Craft Show.
A new feature of the show will be working demonstrations by special guest artisans Julie Spencer and Margaret Hopkins. They were instrumental in organising the earlier quilt shows at Glen Aplin and are both qualified QCWA Handcraft teachers.
Another innovation to the program is the competitive sections. All types of quilts and levels of experience and skill are covered by the various classes in the show. There is even a novice sections for beginner quilt makers. Anyone with a new quilt may enter and be part of the fun.
As well as the interesting displays there will be stalls selling locally handmade craft, light refreshments, accessories and findings, raffles and a scissor sharpening service will be available on site. It will be worth your while to come to the Glen Aplin Memorial Hall 14 Foster St. Doors open Friday 11-4, Saturday 10-4, Sunday 10-2.
The QCWA will celebrate 95 years of community service on Friday the 11 August and will be celebrated with the opening of the Show followed by a free cuppa and cake. All welcome!
Quilts and quilting have a rich history. Unfortunately few antique quilts have survived to this day. The Glen Aplin members hope they are making history with their quilts and yours. With more today’s quilts being used for display and being constructed from more robust fabrics on much improved domestic sewing machines, perhaps some of these will survive the next 100 years.
This is an opportunity to show your work and perhaps win some of the lovely prizes donated by sponsors. Schedules are available at Mickey Mae in Stanthorpe, Facebook, or email Marilyn at firstname.lastname@example.org
