EMERGENCY DROUGHT AID FUNDING CRITERIA

Grants for Individuals/Families

From 1 July 2007 the Queensland Country Women's Association is distributing grants on behalf of the Country Women's Association of Australia (CWAA) to drought affected rural communities and members of those communities who are dependent on farming as their primary source of income.

The Emergency Drought Aid grants aim to:

bulletmeet essential household expenses and other basic needs of rural families, and
bulletfund community-based activities.
(please see examples below)

Grants for Individuals/Families

An `individual' applicant is considered to include:

bulleta farmer or a farming dependent contractor, and
bulletfarming dependent families (including families servicing farming, such as farming contractors and local rural businesses).

Grants are available to help meet household expenses. Examples of household expenses include;

bulletfood,
bulletvehicle maintenance,
bulletschool expenses,
bulletelectricity,
bulletrates,
bullettelephone expenses,
bulletdental and medical, such as gap payments or cost of travel to access treatment.

Grants will be in the form of a cheque/s issued by the CWA in the name of the supplier of goods/service and will be forwarded to the applicant. Copies of invoices must be provided by the applicant to facilitate payment.

Grant payments will be made up to a maximum of $2,000 per household over the life of the programme.

A household may apply more than once, provided that they have not already received the maximum amount under the 2007-08 funding period.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must be members of farming dependent rural communities located in drought declared or drought affected areas where their primary source of income is derived from:

bulletfarming or an on-farm business;
bulletfarming related activities (which may include farm contractors, such as shearers, fencers, harvesting related activities, haulage etc); or
bulletfarming dependent business (such as local rural supply stores);

AND that their primary source of income has suffered as a direct result of the drought.

Applicants who have received grant funds through the 2005-06 programme, or are in receipt of other forms of assistance are not excluded from receiving CWA Emergency Drought grants under this current funding.

However, applicants who received grant funds within the period of November 2006 to March 2007 will not be able to access further funding unless they did not receive their full allocation of $2000.

Grants for Community Groups/Schools/Not-for-Profit Organisations

Community groups may apply for funds to cover part or all of the costs associated with:

bulletholding gatherings and arranging outings, excursions or information sessions for members of drought affected communities; or
bulletproviding 'support packs' such s food hampers or clothing packs to households in drought affected areas that would not otherwise seek assistance.

Applications may also be considered for maintenance of community facilities where their upkeep is usually funded by fundraising activities.  Benefits to the wider rural community would need to be demonstrated. 

Funding for the administration of community groups will not be considered.

Eligibility

Rural community groups (including schools or other not-for-profit organisations) located in drought declared or drought affected areas may apply for 'Community' grants of up to a maximum of $3,000.

The organisation applying for funding should not profit form the provision of the grant.

All applicants wishing to apply for funding must use the 2007-2008 Application forms which will be available on this site from 1 July 2007.

Please note: Applications using past forms will not be accepted for processing.
