Dressmaking
The first Dressmaking Competition was conducted in the year 1991/92
- 4 sections were contested: Budget; Daywear; Creative and After Five. Three years
later a Girl's Frock was added to the competition - this was changed 2 years later to a
Child's Outfit. A Designer Wear section was also added, however due to lack of
support, this was only contested for 2 years then deleted, being replaced with a
Wool/Wool-mix section. In 2005, the competition
debuted a Lingerie section.
The Competition is judged at Divisional, Regional and State levels.
A State Committee is appointed to coordinate this competition. The duties of the Committee are to
ensure that Divisional Conveners have all the relevant information and forms to distribute
to the branches, and to conduct the Dressmaking Session at State Conference, ensuring the
garments are judged by competent Judges.
The duties of Divisional Conveners is to encourage members and
non-members (who are not professional dressmakers) to enter the competition. They
arrange Judges and conduct the session at Divisional Finals. They also cooperate
with the Regional Vice Presidents in conducting the Regional Finals when hosted by their
Division.
QCWA has 3 Regions, winners in all 6 sections from each Region are
eligible to enter at State level. Entrants who have not won
at Division level are to remain a Novice. The State Convener endeavours to obtain donations
towards prizes for entrants at State Level.
The aims and objectives of the competition are to encourage women
to learn home skills and enjoy satisfaction by creating clothes for all the family.
