Recipe – Poached Pears


What’s great about it:

One pear equals one serve of fruit per person. This dessert is great paired with natural yoghurt for a source of dairy and toasted walnuts for fibre and an extra antioxidant boost.

1 lemon, zest and juice

1 orange, whole

1 stick cinnamon

500ml water

100g sugar

2 pears, peeled

2 tablespoons natural yoghurt

30g toasted walnuts


PLACE lemon zest and juice from lemon and orange in a small saucepan.

ADD cinnamon, sugar and water to the saucepan and bring to the boil.

COOK until the sugar dissolves.

PLACE pears into saucepan and reduce the heat.

SIMMER gently for 10 to 12 minutes, or until tender.

REMOVE from the heat and leave to cool.

SERVE the pears with yoghurt, nuts and 4 tablespoons of poaching liquid per person.
